[LinuxEsLibre] problemas con módem usb

antes que nada, buenos días y un cordial saludo a la comunidad;
hoy me trae por acá un módem bam Axesstel, banda 3g gsm de movilnet
Venezuela;

este dispositivo no me pertenece, el propio es de una amiga que me lo
trae ya que es lo único que le impide migrar definitivamente a los os
gnu/linux; ella me comenta haber echo de todo, y me lo trae por que
tener ya algunas experiencias con estos dispositivos en debían;

yo por mi parte llevo dos días tratando de hacer que mi squeeze lo
reconozca y nada no se que estoy haciendo mal y es aqui donde decidi
buscar a la caballería.

mi distro debían squeeze
versión del kernel 2.6.32-5-686

en un comienzo instale los siguientes paquetes que ya he instalado
anteriormente para configurar estos módems sin ningún
problema.

modemmanager usb-modeswitch usb-modeswitch-data gnome-ppp dhcpcd
network-manager network-manager-gnome

y cundo creí que no tendría ningún problema nada no se reconoció el módem
